About CountyTaxFacts

CountyTaxFacts puts plain property tax numbers for every U.S. state and county, and thousands of cities, on one page each: the median tax homeowners pay, the median home value, the effective rate that links the two, and a calculator to turn that rate into a yearly estimate for any home value.

All figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS), a large public survey in which homeowners report the real estate taxes they paid and what their home is worth. We don’t collect personal data to build these pages, and we don’t sell tax appeal or lending services.

These are estimates, not tax bills. They describe typical homes in an area. Your own bill depends on your assessed value, the taxing units at your address and any exemptions you qualify for. Your county assessor, appraisal district or tax collector has the real number.

The site is an independent project published by Anders Hjortnæs. It is not affiliated with the Census Bureau, any state or local government, or any taxing authority. Read the methodology for exactly how the numbers are calculated, or contact us with corrections.
